The direct isolation of nattokinase from the most natural of all sources—the traditional Japanese dish natto—is extremely complex and difficult to standardise. Therefore, we have opted for the manufacturing process that comes closest to this tradition.
Our nattokinase boasts a peak enzyme activity of over 60,000 FU per gram. It is sourced from one of the world's top three leading quality manufacturers and is derived 100% through the fermentation of non-GMO soya beans with the bacterium Bacillus subtilis. The bacteria use the soya beans merely as a nutrient medium to grow. Nattokinase is therefore not a component of the bean itself, but is naturally produced by the bacteria.
Once the bacteria have completely metabolised the soya substrate, a multi-stage refinement process begins: the enzyme is extracted from the pure bacterial biomass and purified using column chromatography. This step removes the last remaining bacterial proteins as well as unwanted metabolic by-products such as vitamin K2. The result is the pure, isolated enzyme.
Due to the complete metabolisation of the nutrient medium and the subsequent purification, we obtain a product that, according to laboratory analyses, no longer contains any soya isoflavones. However, production-related traces cannot be 100% ruled out.
We clearly distance ourselves from inferior qualities on the market: some manufacturers use genetically modified soya or, instead of a purely plant-based foundation, use waste from shrimp production (crustacean shells) as a breeding ground for the bacteria. Such nattokinase products are often not vegan—ours, however, is 100% vegan.
As a purely natural filler, we use premium acacia fibre (gum arabic) cultivated without plant protection products. In contrast to the commonly used synthetic filler microcrystalline cellulose, which is often laced with nanoparticles, we use a natural, fibre-rich food source as a filler. Our acacia fibre is sourced from climate-neutral, sustainable and fair cultivation.
For the capsule shells we use custom-made HPMC capsules that, unlike most other HPMC and pullulan capsules on the market, are 100% free from controversial additives such as carrageenans and PEG. We then package this product in environmentally friendly amber glass.
