The small red-brown camu camu fruit (Myrciaria dubia) grows on tall, tree-like shrubs and belongs to the myrtle family. It is native to South America, where it grows mainly in the humid, swampy regions of the Amazon rainforest near rivers. The warm, humid climate there provides the perfect conditions for it to thrive. The fruity-sour tasting camu camu fruit is considered one of the most vitamin C-rich fruits on our planet.

With its content of valuable vital and plant substances, the camu camu berry is a real superfood. The indigenous peoples of Peru mainly consume the freshly squeezed juice of the fruity-sour fruit. In the indigenous culture, camu camu was traditionally known above all as an aphrodisiac.

The small, reddish-brown camu camu is native to South America and grows best in moist, swampy areas near rivers in the Amazon rainforest in northern Peru. The berries are traditionally harvested between November and March during the summer months in the southern hemisphere. Only during this time are the rivers low enough to permit the harvesting of the fruits. The camu camu are harvested only once naturally ripe and are then sorted, gently dried and finely milled.

Our organic camu camu powder is made from the entire berry and therefore contains not only the vitamin C-rich fruit pulp, but also the other valuable phytochemicals in the seeds and shell. The plant compounds of the camu camu fruit are most effective when kept together in such a natural complex.
