Vitamin C Ultra Complex Bioflavonoids

How are we different?

Vitamin C does not occur in nature as an isolated compound. It is always integrated into a rich matrix of various polyphenols and other phytochemicals, which not only support the recycling of vitamin C and exert a synergistic effect through their antioxidant properties but also increase the bioavailability and retention of vitamin C.

Vitamin C Complex Ultra Bioflavonoids supplies vitamin C in a uniquely rich, multi-spectrum complex. The combination of powdered acerola cherry, camu camu and rosehip, and their full phytochemical profiles, with vitamin C from the active ingredients PureWay-C® and Polyphenol-C®, together with the plant-derived fatty acids, citrus bioflavonoids and berry polyphenols from grape, raspberry, blackberry, strawberry and cranberry, creates a unique vitamin C complex. Quercetin, rutin and OPC from grape seeds and pine bark are known for their synergy with vitamin C, but less well-known phytochemicals, such as the citrus bioflavonoids hesperidin, naringin, apigenin and naringenin, also support the effects of vitamin C.

All the plant-based sources of vitamin C (acerola, camu camu and rosehip) in this complex are from certified organic cultivation. The acerola, camu camu and rosehip powders are ground from the whole fruits. The quercetin, rutin and OPC come from ultra-pure extractions using only water or water and food grade alcohol (there is no use of any additional solvents).

Another factor influencing the quality of vitamin C supplements is the source of the vitamin itself; high-dose vitamin C is obtained almost exclusively from corn and citrus fruits, the quality of which can vary. It is therefore important to us to ensure that the raw material is sourced exclusively from non-GMO maize. This raw material, through the highly innovative and modern PureWay-C® manufacturing process conducted according to the highest quality standards, is transformed into our concentrated active ingredient – and contains no trace of maize, fructose or any chemical solvent residues.

The active ingredient Polyphenol-C® is a premium vitamin C complex consisting of vitamin C in combination with polyphenols (standardised to 10%) from a wide range of fruit and berry powders and extracts (blueberry, grape, raspberry, blackberry, strawberry and cranberry). This premium active ingredient has been modelled on nature: vitamin C naturally occurs in fruits and berries with anthocyanins, proanthocyanidins and bioflavonoids as natural cofactors.

For the capsule shells we use custom-made HPMC capsules that, unlike most other HPMC and pullulan capsules on the market, are 100% free from controversial additives such as carrageenans and PEG. We then package this product in environmentally friendly amber glass.

Effects

Vitamin C is involved in numerous redox reactions as an antioxidant and cofactor, thus influencing numerous processes in the human body, such as energy metabolism and the immune system, and providing antioxidative protection to cells. It is also involved in the formation of collagen, the structural protein found in skin, cartilage, bones and blood vessels, as well as in the synthesis of hormones.

High concentrations of vitamin C are found naturally in fresh fruits, vegetables and berries such as camu camu, sea buckthorn berry, acerola cherry, rosehip, black currant, kale, parsley, kiwis and citrus fruits, among others.

The role of vitamin C in the body remains an active area of research. Almost every year, new mechanisms of action are discovered for this fascinating vitamin. The following statements regarding vitamin C are provided by the EU:

According to the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA):

Vitamin C contributes to:

  • The reduction of tiredness and fatigue
  • Normal mental function
  • The regeneration of the reduced form of vitamin E
  • Normal energy metabolism
  • Normal immune system function
  • The normal function of the nervous system
  • Protecting cells against oxidative stress
  • Normal collagen formation for normal blood vessel function
  • Normal collagen formation for normal bone function
  • Normal collagen formation for normal cartilage function
  • Normal collagen formation for normal dental function
  • Normal collagen formation for normal gum function
  • Normal collagen formation for normal skin function
  • Increasing iron absorption
  • Maintaining normal immune system function both during and after intense physical activity

Synergy with Bioflavonoids

Bioflavonoids are the most common type of phytochemical. These important compounds are found in vegetables, fruits and herbs and are responsible for the vibrant colour of blueberries and of dark leafy vegetables, to name a couple examples. Bioflavonoids have strong antioxidant properties; to support the natural synergy between vitamin C and bioflavonoids, our vitamin C complexes contain a broad spectrum of valuable bioflavonoids from citrus fruits, berries and superfoods which themselves are also rich in vitamin C.

Acerola

Our acerola is sourced from Brazil. It is gently freeze dried immediately after harvest and then milled into a natural fruit powder without the addition of controversial carrier materials such as maltodextrin. Acerola cherries are known for their exceptionally high vitamin C content (approximately 1700mg per 100g fresh).

Camu Camu

The small, yellowish red camu camu fruit (Myrciaria dubia) grows wild in the Peruvian Amazon. The fruity and sour, slightly bitter berries are among the most vitamin C-rich foods on earth, with roughly 40 times the vitamin C of an orange. The dried berry can reach up to 13–14% vitamin C.

Rosehip

We source our premium rosehip powder from Chile, where the variety of rosehip (Rosa canina L.) richest in bioactives thrives. The wild bushes grow slowly under the harsh climatic conditions in the south of Chile at an altitude of 800m. This slow growth fosters the development of a uniquely high quality fruit. Hildegard von Bingen considered rosehip to have special healing properties.

Rutin and Quercetin

Yellow-coloured rutin as well as quercetin are bioflavonoids. Rutin is the glycosidic compound of quercetin, supplemented by the disaccharide rutinose. Like all flavonoids, rutin and quercetein have antioxidant properties, which is why plants increase their production of them under certain conditions: they need rutin and quercetin for colour and protection (e.g., to protect themselves against UV rays or environmental influences). The blossoms of the Japanese cord tree (Sophora japonica), from which we extract our rutin and quercetin, are particularly rich in these phytochemicals.

OPC Complex

OPC (short for oligomeric proanthocyanidins), also known as vitamin P, are a group of flavonols consisting of polymers of catechins and epicatechins. OPCs are found in high concentrations in grape seeds and pine bark, each of which also contain other valuable phytochemicals. The individual proanthocyanidins contained in each differ in both form and effect. Grape seed extract contains significant quantities of the important proanthocyanidin B3-3-O-gallate, while pine bark extract contains taxifolin. Together, the extracts offer the full spectrum of the OPC group.

Dosage

Recommended Dosage

Take 1 capsule (400mg vitamin C) daily.

Daily Requirements

The National Health Service (NHS) recommends a daily intake of 40mg of vitamin C. However, it is important to note that individual vitamin C needs may vary according to age, dietary habits, genetics and other factors.

Vitamin C should be divided into several portions throughout the day, as the body can only absorb a limited amount into its tissues at once before they reach saturation and because blood levels of the vitamin drop relatively soon after ingestion.

Food Supplement

Do not exceed the recommended dose. Food supplements cannot replace a balanced and varied diet. Keep out of reach of children. Not suitable for children, adolescents or individuals who are pregnant or breastfeeding.

Storage

Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and heat.
