How are we different?

Not all forms of vitamin B12 and folate are equally effective. Conventional supplements often contain only synthetic forms of folic acid and vitamin B12, which the body must first convert into their biologically active forms before they can be utilised. Sunday Natural Vitamin B12 MH3A® plus Folate Complex Ultra delivers the full spectrum of bioactive, natural forms for both vitamins.

Conventional combination supplements of B12 and folate typically provide just one active ingredient per vitamin. Within our body and in natural foods, however, both occur in several active forms. Each form has a different effect and is absorbed through partially distinct metabolic pathways, meaning the optimal B12 or folate form can vary from person to person. By combining two premium active ingredient complexes containing all the active, natural B12 and folate cofactors, we ensure ideal absorption of both vitamins.

As the B12 pioneer who first introduced it, our Vitamin B12 MH3A® formula delivers vitamin B12 the way it naturally occurs in food, unlike many conventional B12 supplements: as a combination of all three natural, bioactive forms of vitamin B12 in optimal synergy. Each of these three forms fulfils distinct roles in the body and has its own area of focus. Our MH3A® formula contains all three forms of vitamin B12 in an equal, balanced ratio across five B12 active ingredients, providing comprehensive all-round support, mirroring how all three forms are always found together, both in the body and in nature's own food sources. On the market, almost all available supplements contain only one of the three B12 active ingredients: methylcobalamin, hydroxocobalamin or adenosylcobalamin.

In our Folate Complex Ultra formula, we've combined three premium folates for exceptional folate diversity. The two most bioactive L-methylfolates: the glucosamine salt and the highly bioavailable calcium salt. Both deliver 99.9% pure L-methylfolate and complement one another through quick, effective absorption of bioactive L-5-MTHF via distinct metabolic pathways. As a third ingredient, lemon peel extract provides the full spectrum of natural folates, offering seamless, comprehensive support modelled on nature itself. The glucosamine salt is a form in which methylfolate is bound to glucosamine to stabilise it, ensuring optimal shelf life and efficacy. Glucosamine is itself a valuable, natural component of various body tissues, adding further benefit to the overall effect. This form stands out for its previously unmatched bioavailability and can be utilised directly by the body. Owing to its exceptional purity, high stability and outstanding bioavailability, this glucosamine salt ranks among the two most valuable and effective forms of L-methylfolate available. The second premium active ingredient is highly bioavailable L-methylfolate as L-5-methyltetrahydrofolate, bound to a calcium salt in a special, particularly effective crystalline form. This ensures an extremely high absorption rate of the active ingredient L-5-MTHF. As a result, during first-pass absorption, the initial uptake step, 76% of the active ingredient can be absorbed into the bloodstream, where it's even able to cross the blood-brain barrier. With a minimum purity of 99.9% of the active (6S) isomer of L-methylfolate and its high stability, it stands as one of the two unrivalled premium forms of L-methylfolate.

Dissolving the tablets in the mouth offers the advantage that the vitamins can be absorbed directly through the oral mucosa via passive diffusion. This bypasses gut-related absorption issues and significantly increases bioavailability. Via this route, the vitamins also enter the bloodstream directly, without first having to pass through the liver, as would be the case with intestinal absorption.

Our premium tablets are made using natural guar bean fibre as their base. We entirely avoid the use of pressing aids such as magnesium stearate or coatings with sweeteners, colourings or gelatine.

Effects

Vitamin B12 (Cobalamin)

Vitamin B12 fulfils a number of important functions in the body: it can help to reduce tiredness and fatigue and maintain a normal energy metabolism; it contributes to the normal functioning of the psyche, immune and nervous systems; supports the formation of red blood cells; and is beneficial for normal homocysteine metabolism. The body also needs vitamin B12 for cell division.

Vitamin B12 acts as a so-called coenzyme in the body, meaning it is necessary for certain enzymes to fulfil their tasks. The associated reactions are directly dependent on vitamin B12 and cannot take place without it.

Vitamin B12 MH3A® Formula

Vitamin B12 exists in different chemical forms, each with different functions within the body. The natural forms of vitamin B12 that can be readily absorbed by the body are described as "bioactive coenzymes." Synthetic forms of vitamin B12 such as cyanocobalamin must be first coverted into a natural form by the body in order to be effective, which is why we use naturally bioactive vitamin B12.

The biologically active coenzyme forms of vitamin B12 in the body are called methylcobalamin and adenosylcobalamin. Both act at different places and in completely different reactions, which is why humans need both forms of vitamin B12 and can also convert them into each other. Methylcobalamin is active in the cytoplasm as a part of the methylation cycle, which has a broad impact on various aspects of our health such as blood formation, brain health, and the nervous system. Adenosylcobalamin, on the other hand, is active within the mitochondria – the "powerhouses" of cells – where it is part of the citric acid cycle, considered the main metabolic cycle for energy production.

Hydroxocobalamin is another natural form of vitamin B12 that can be found in many food products. Most of the vitamin B12 in the blood is in the form of hydroxocobalamin. Hydroxocobalamin binds particularly well to vitamin B12 transport molecules and is therefore excreted less quickly; as a result, it is considered the B12 with the best repository properties. Hydroxocobalamin can be easily converted by the body into the active coenzyme forms as needed.

Vitamin B9 Folate (Folic Acid)

Folate, also known as vitamin B9, is involved in a variety of important body functions. This essential vitamin contributes to energy metabolism, it can reduce fatigue and tiredness and it supports the immune system as well as mental functioning. It is required for haematosis, cell division, homocysteine metabolism and forming amino acids. Folate also plays a role in the growth of maternal tissue during pregnancy.

Synthetic folic acid must first be converted into folate in order to be bioactive. This conversion cannot always proceed in the body without issue, as a number of cofactors and enzymes are necessary for it to occur. The optimal, biologically active form of folate is called L-methylfolate (or, more precisely, L-5-methyltetrahydrofolate, or L-5-MTHF). L-methylfolate is an important methyl donor and an essential component of the methylation cycle.

According to the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA):

Dosage

Directions

Take 1 lozenge (1000µg B12 + 400µg folic acid) daily. Allow it to dissolve in the mouth for as long as possible or swallow with plenty of water.

Daily Requirements

Vitamin B12

The National Health Service (NHS) recommends a daily intake of 1.5μg of vitamin B12 (cobalamin). However, it is important to note that individual vitamin B12 needs may vary according to age, dietary habits, genetics and other factors.

The human body can only absorb a portion of the vitamin B12 found in food and supplements: only about 1–2µg of vitamin B12 can be absorbed at a time via the intrinsic factor, a special protein, with a further 1% absorbed via passive diffusion through the intestine. Calculating total B12 absorption therefore requires taking both of these factors into account. Note: By distributing intake of B12 throughout the day, absorption via the intrinsic factor can be maximised.

In the case of Sunday Natural MH3A® 1000µg, intake can be estimated at 10 to 12µg of vitamin B12 per lozenge.

Folate (Vitamin B9)

The National Health Service (NHS) recommends a daily intake of 200μg of vitamin B9 (folate). For those pregnant or trying to become pregnant, daily intake should be increased to 400μg through the 12th week of pregnancy. However, it is important to note that individual vitamin B9 needs may vary according to age, dietary habits, genetics and other factors.

Food Supplement

Do not exceed the recommended daily intake. Food supplements are not a substitute for a balanced, varied diet and healthy lifestyle. Keep out of reach of young children.

Storage

Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and heat.

Product Details

Our in-house production guarantees uncompromising purity and quality. Production, bottling and encapsulation take place in the EU according to our own rigorous specifications and in strict compliance with HACCP, GMP and ISO 22000:2018 standards.

Bespoke liquid formulations, (functional) foods for athletic and daily performance and select exclusive items are produced as high-grade custom preparations by chosen partners who share our commitment to quality, adhering strictly to HACCP, GMP and ISO standards.

In line with our True Clean Label philosophy, we refrain from using artificial additives, colourants and preservatives intended to standardise product appearance. Consequently, formulations containing natural botanical extracts and plant-based raw materials may display subtle batch-to-batch colour variations. These variations stem from natural factors such as harvest timing (seasonal differences between early and late harvests), origin (geographical soil and climate fluctuations) or processing dynamics (variations in particle grind size). Such natural shade shifts may also occur in our plant-based or compressed tablets formulated with premium acacia fibre or nanoparticle-free cellulose and do not constitute a defect in quality.

Laboratory Tests

The purity of our formulas is important to us. This is why we have both our raw ingredients as well as our finished products extensively tested by independent laboratories to confirm purity and active ingredient content. Here, we have provided the results of some of the tests carried out on this product.
