How are we different?
Not all forms of vitamin B12 show the same level of efficacy. Conventional supplements often contain only synthetic forms of vitamin B12, which must first be converted into biologically active forms by the body before they can be utilised. Sunday Natural Vitamin B12 MH3A® provides the full spectrum of natural and bioactive forms of vitamin B12.
Conventional vitamin B12 supplements usually contain only one active ingredient. However, several active forms of B12 occur in our bodies and in natural foods. All forms exhibit different effects and are metabolised in part via different pathways, resulting in absorption rates unique to every individual.
Although standard practice to supply vitamin B12 in an isolated, synthetic context, our pioneering MH3A® formula offers the vitamin in the same way as it occurs in food: as a mixture of all three natural and bioactive forms, which allows the natural synergistic effects between them to occur (they each fulfil completely different tasks in the body and have different focal points of action). Our MH3A® formula contains these three forms of vitamin B12 in an equal ratio, spread across a total of five active forms of B12. This formula thus provides a foundational supply of vitamin B12 as found in nature, where all three forms are always found in a harmonious combination, both in our bodies and in the foods we eat. In contrast, the majority of products available on the market contain only one of the three B12 active ingredients: either methylcobalamin, hydroxocobalamin or adenosylcobalamin.
The only other ingredient is premium gum arabic, cultivated without the use of plant protection products. In contrast to microcrystalline cellulose, a widely used synthetic filler often mixed with nanoparticles, gum arabic is a natural, fibre-rich food. The soluble dietary fibres serve as a food source for bifidobacteria and lactobacilli in the intestine. Our fair trade gum arabic is climate neutral and is sustainably cultivated to conserve resources.
For the capsule shells we use custom-made HPMC capsules that, unlike most other HPMC and pullulan capsules on the market, are 100% free from controversial additives such as carrageenans and PEG. We then package this product in environmentally friendly amber glass.

Vitamin B12 (Cobalamin)
Vitamin B12 fulfils a number of important functions in the body: it can help to reduce tiredness and fatigue and maintain a normal energy metabolism; it contributes to the normal functioning of the psyche, immune and nervous systems; supports the formation of red blood cells; and is beneficial for normal homocysteine metabolism. The body also needs vitamin B12 for cell division.
Vitamin B12 acts as a so-called coenzyme in the body, meaning it is necessary for certain enzymes to fulfil their tasks. The associated reactions are directly dependent on vitamin B12 and cannot take place without it.
Vitamin B12 MH3A® Formula
Vitamin B12 exists in different chemical forms, each with different functions within the body. The natural forms of vitamin B12 that can be readily absorbed by the body are described as "bioactive coenzymes." Synthetic forms of vitamin B12 such as cyanocobalamin must be first coverted into a natural form by the body in order to be effective, which is why we use naturally bioactive vitamin B12.
The biologically active coenzyme forms of vitamin B12 in the body are called methylcobalamin and adenosylcobalamin. Both act at different places and in completely different reactions, which is why humans need both forms of vitamin B12 and can also convert them into each other. Methylcobalamin is active in the cytoplasm as a part of the methylation cycle, which has a broad impact on various aspects of our health such as blood formation, brain health, and the nervous system. Adenosylcobalamin, on the other hand, is active within the mitochondria – the "powerhouses" of cells – where it is part of the citric acid cycle, considered the main metabolic cycle for energy production.
Hydroxocobalamin is another natural form of vitamin B12 that can be found in many food products. Most of the vitamin B12 in the blood is in the form of hydroxocobalamin. Hydroxocobalamin binds particularly well to vitamin B12 transport molecules and is therefore excreted less quickly; as a result, it is considered the B12 with the best repository properties. Hydroxocobalamin can be easily converted by the body into the active coenzyme forms as needed.

Vitamin B12
The National Health Service (NHS) recommends a daily intake of 1.5μg of vitamin B12 (cobalamin). However, it is important to note that individual vitamin B12 needs may vary according to age, dietary habits, genetics and other factors.
The human body can only absorb small quantities of vitamin B12 through food and supplements. Only approximately 1–2µg vitamin B12 per dosage can be actively absorbed through the special "intrinsic factor" protein and a further 1% of the dosage is absorbed through passive diffusion. The total supplement intake is estimated based on the combination of these two factors.
According to this calculation, Sunday Natural B12 MH3A-D® 500µg in drops enables an intake of 6–7µg Vitamin B12 per drop.
