How are we different?
Our calcium comes from the sustainable degradation of calcified Old Atlantic Lithothamnium red algae. Due to its organic structure, our phytocalcium is particularly bioavailable. This red algae from the Atlantic (Calcified Atlantic Seaweed®) has a particularly high concentration of naturally bound calcium (32%). The calcium is present in the form of calcium carbonate and is embedded in a multi-mineral complex of many other minerals and trace elements, including magnesium, iron and iodine. In the course of its growth, the algae absorbs these from the seawater and uses them to form its cell structures. After dying, the algae body calcifies into a finely porous, skeleton-like structure and sediments separately from the younger algae on the seabed of the Atlantic Ocean. These sediments can eventually be harvested sustainably at various locations.
Calcified Atlantic Seaweed® consists of 100% wild-collected Atlantic Lithothamnium red algae, which is harvested, cleaned and milled according to HACCP and ISO 22000:2018 standards, with processing ensuring the lowest possible heavy metal and microbiological values and thus a red algae powder of maximum purity and compatibility. As a result, the heavy metal values of Calcified Atlantic Seaweed® are well below the European limits despite its origin from the seabed:

Additionally, calcium plays a role in various cellular processes, including energy production, blood clotting, signal transmission between nerve cells, and the excitation of muscles and nerves.
Plant-Based Calcium Carbonate with High Bioavailability
The calcium carbonate found in calcified Lithothamnium red algae has an organic structure that is fundamentally different from inorganic calcium carbonate sources such as limestone. In contrast to limestone, algal calcium is finely porous, which increases its surface area and the solubility and bioavailability of the calcium carbonate. It has been shown that algal calcium can therefore be better absorbed by the body, at rates of up to 200% of those of inorganic calcium.
Mineral Complex with 63+ Minerals and Trace Elements
In addition to highly bioavailable calcium, Lithothamnium red algae also contains a range of mineral and trace elements absorbed from sea water. Magnesium, iodine and iron are among the minerals naturally occurring in the largest quantities and are necessary for numerous enzymatic functions. As a result, Calcified Atlantic Seaweed® is a multimineral complex with benefits that exceed those of isolated calcium supplements such as calcium citrate.
