Vitamin K2 exists in various molecular forms, categorised as MK4 and MK7 based on the length of their side chains. MK7 is widely regarded as the most effective form, as it remains active within the body for an extended duration and meets functional requirements even at lower dosages. Within the MK7 form, however, variations exist; only the trans-configuration possesses full biological efficacy. Any active ingredient declared as all-trans must consist of at least 98% vitamin K2 MK7 in this effective state. Caution is essential here, as widespread label fraud persists within the industry despite manufacturer claims. Independent laboratory tests frequently reveal that many supplements marketed as all-trans K2 actually contain only trace amounts of the active form.
